Safeguarding

Our commitment to the protection of children, young people, and vulnerable adults

Our Commitment

The Pallottine Society of the Catholic Apostolate in Nigeria is fully committed to creating and maintaining safe environments for all people — especially children, young people, and vulnerable adults — in all our communities, parishes, schools, and apostolic works. We take all concerns seriously and act swiftly and responsibly in every case.

What Safeguarding Means to Us

Safeguarding is the action taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm. It also extends to vulnerable adults who may be at risk of abuse or neglect. For the Pallottines, this is not merely a legal obligation — it flows from our deepest Gospel values: the dignity of every human person and the special care owed to the most vulnerable.

All Pallottine priests, brothers, and co-workers in Nigeria are required to adhere to our Safeguarding Policy and to complete mandatory safeguarding training. We are aligned with the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) guidelines and international best practices.

Our Key Principles

Children First

The welfare of children is always the paramount concern. We act in the best interest of every child in all circumstances.

Zero Tolerance

We have zero tolerance for abuse, neglect, exploitation, or harassment of any kind within our communities or apostolic works.

Safe Recruitment

All persons working with children or vulnerable adults undergo thorough vetting, references, and safeguarding training before appointment.

Listen and Believe

We listen seriously to every disclosure or concern raised, and we never dismiss or minimise what a child or vulnerable person tells us.

Accountability

All concerns are reported to the appropriate authorities. We cooperate fully with civil authorities and Church bodies in all investigations.

Confidentiality

Information is handled with strict confidentiality, shared only with those who need to know in order to protect the person at risk.

How to Report a Concern

If you have a concern about the welfare of a child or vulnerable adult, please act immediately.

If someone is in immediate danger Contact the Nigerian Police Force immediately by calling 112 or the nearest police station. Do not wait.
